Martin Alberto Gonzalez is a PhD student in Cultural Foundations of Education at Syracuse University (SU). He was raised in Oxnard, California and has a BA in Sociology and a minor in Psychology from California State University, Northridge. He is interested in race and education, more specifically, community cultural wealth, and the experiences of students of color in a predominantly white university setting. Much of his work stems from his past experiences coming from a city where he has witnessed too many people from his community, including his own family, be denied an education despite their potential to excel.
